When it comes to our children, there is just about nothing that we wouldn’t do to protect them. When your children are sick, there isn’t much that we can do for them. Many times, it is important that we do what we can to make them feel comfortable.

One type of sickness that our children can get is a fever. A fever is also known as a high temperature. When people get a fever, it is usually the cause of an underlying illness, like an infection. While fevers are not usually dangerous, it can be dangerous when the body temperature rises to high. A fever can make you feel lethargic, fussy, have a poor appetite, sore throat, cough, ear pain, vomiting, and diarrhea. You should let your doctor know if your child: looks sick, is drowsy or fussy, has a weakened immune system or other medical problems, has a seizure, has symptoms such as rash, sore throat, headache, stiff neck, or earache.

Some causes for fever include:

  • Colds
  • Gastroenteritis
  • Ear infection
  • Lung infection
  • Skin infection
  • Throat infection
  • Bladder infection
  • Kidney infection
  • Conditions that cause inflammation
  • Side effects of drugs
  • Cancer
  • Vaccines
  • Blood clots
  • Autoimmune diseases
  • Hormone disorders
  • Illegal drugs

If your child has a fever, it is important that you do what you can to help them. Going to your child’s pediatrician may be your first choice, but they might not be open. When your primary doctor is not available, then call us at Las Vegas Urgent Care. When your primary doctor is not available, we are. We have extended hours so that you will be able to see the doctor even when yours is not available.
